Blogging Tip | Fixing The Blogger Photo Limit Problem

Last week I ran into the horrible problem of not having room for any more photos on my blog! It was awful! Being a girl with no money I was determined to figure out what was going on and how I could fix the problem without buying my own domain. Yes, I know it's only $10 a month, but I have no income and therefore no way to pay for that.

So what did I do to be able to post photos again? I spent literally 5 hours searching Google and trying to figure out what was wrong and how I could get back to posting pics. Here are a few things I learned:

1. Yes, there is a 1024MB limit for Blogger users, BUT photo's under the 800x600 pixel size DON'T COUNT towards that total!
2. When you go to post photo's on your blog just Export them to another folder (I use Picasa 3 so the export button is at the bottom of the screen when you're on an individual photo) and then choose the "resize to" option. Make sure you move the bar to 800x600 and then you should be able to upload to your blog without any problems!
3. An alternative option is to upgrade your storage space...but I obviously didn't want to do that since you have to pay so much per month.

I hope that this information is helpful to those of you who are currently using the Blogger platform!

UPDATE
I have found a super easy way to resize your photo's without ruining them or the hassle of downloading a program, etc. Go to PicMonkey. Upload your photo, on the very first screen once you upload the photo you will have the option to RESIZE (this is at the bottom of the list so you may have to scroll down a bit). Make sure the box is checked next to "keep proportions" and then type in 800. The other number (which WILL be less than 600) will fill in automatically. Now just click "apply" then save your photo. *Make sure to save as a .jpg not .png!*

    1. You are very welcome Niki! If you don't have a way to resize pics I've found pickmonkey to be extremely useful! You can resize by typing in 800 and it automatically fills in the other part to keep the photo's proportions! http://picmonkey.com

  3. Thanks so much! I thought I was going crazy. I figured out that I had used too much space so just for the heck of it I started reducing the picture size in FastStone Imager. I was trying to keep pictures to about 100 kb (I read that online somewhere). All of a sudden I had no problems but figured I had just a little bit leftover. Thanks for explaining that my size didn't count! I'm not insane!

    1. You're welcome Melinda! I actually need to add to this post that on PicMonkey.com you can chose to resize photos (for free) by typing in 800 and it will fill in the other side and keep your picture proportioned properly so it won't be messed up which is perfect and easy! :)

  5. Definitely going to try this... do you know if it compromises the photo quality? For example, if I still want it to be an "x-large" photo on the post, will it be messed up?

    1. Oh no it wont! Just as long as the photo quality is good to start with they you should be perfectly fine. On my photography blog I actually have all my photos resized and then they are shown at extra large if you'd like to see an example. (http://angellightphotographybyhelen.blogspot.com/)
