The Survivalist Post | Sandy Hook...Was It A Fake?

Okay, so back when all those bloggers were doing the "blogger day of silence for Sandy Hook Elementary" I was like: "What's going on? What happened?" I'm not a person who watches tv, reads the newspaper...or keeps up with most news in general so I really had no clue what was going on. Well, since then I've had friends email me links to different things related to the Sandy Hook shooting and I have to say that I think it was a fake. If you're not sure for yourself, or don't know much about this situation you might find this Youtube video really interesting:

Either way it really has some interesting points in making you think more about some of the recent events that have gone on in terms of shootings/acts of terrorism.

The Survivalist Post #2 | States to Secede, A Week Long Study

Happy Monday everyone!! For those who may be new to my blog, this is a once a week series in which I share my thoughts on politics, survivalist things, and prepping! I only post about these things on Monday so as not to put a damper on the other fun things I love to blog about throughout the week! :)

Just last Monday I was reading through my email and I saw where The Survivalist Blog had shared an interesting tidbit on the post Monday Miscellany. The White House website now has secession petitions from 20 states. Before last Monday I knew nothing about all of the other states. I knew about Texas, but was quite surprised by some of the others...not saying that this is a bad thing though. I think it is a great thing that these people do realize that things are not right and need to be taken care of.

Day 1: November 12th. I decided to create a map to compare the difference between the election results and the petitions to secede and what states they were coming from. As of this point I was only aware of 22 states with petitions (some with multiple petitions turned in, see below).

All the additions...by November 13th 2012! Wow, just in one day practical all of the states had turned in a petition, and every RED state for sure had a petition in!

Day 2: November 13th. As you can see, in just one day HUGE difference in the two maps above. Now there is a total of 40 states who have turned on petitions to seceded. Over half of the current petitions from yesterday have tripled in numbers of signatures. 5 have reached the goal of 25,000 signatures (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas). Many new petitions were added, some states now have multiple petitions running now where they didn't before.

Day 3: November 14th. Finally! A petition to Impeach Obama has been created...actually the date says it was created on November 11th, but I just ran across it today...I honestly feel this would be a lot easier on everyone than states seceding from the United States. It currently has 9,185 signatures. States added to the Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Virginia, Washington. The completed petitions (they reached the goal of 25,000 signatures or more) now have a minimum of 2,000-7,000 more signatures depending on which one I looked at. I checked all the other petitions and the number jumps were HUGE! Anywhere from 1,000-10,000 signatures or more on most of them! States to reach goal today: North Carolina, Tennessee.

Day 4: November 15th. Four days into this study. I'm getting ready to start looking at results of what all the petitions look like now. The petition for Obama to be impeached went from 9,185 to 25,647 signatures in ONE day! Wow! Texas' petition hit over 109,000 signatures! The other finished petitions added over 2,000 new signatures since yesterday. Most of the petitions which were not completed also added 2,000 or more signatures since yesterday. The petition with the least difference in signatures added today was North Dakota's. No new states petitions to pass the 25,000 signature mark today. I did find a few more petitions however: Connecticut, Maryland, Vermont

Day 5: November 16th. According to this article on The Blaze, the individual states no longer have a right to secede from the union. I don't know if this is true or not, but reading through this was interesting. On to today's count...I wonder what new things I will discover today. I think there's a possibility for 5 of the petitions to hit target or beyond at the rate signatures have been piling on. Let's see if I'm right. Well so far signatures are at a low of 50 and a high of 800 being a normal adding rate. Well I was surprised that none reached goal. It seems that signing petitions has slowed down quite a bit since yesterday. Now to look at those which have passed goal to see how much they've grown! The Texas petition went from 109,000+ to 112,000+ overnight! The others gained 1,000+ signatures each.

Day 6: November 17th. Just checking numbers today...I haven't seen anything interesting otherwise. Average adding signatures 120-300 signatures; much lower than even yesterday's signature rates. The only petition past 25,000 to add even more signatures than a small amount was the Texas petition; another thousand was added overnight; now it is over 113,000. The petition for Obama to be impeached gained over 2,000 signatures since yesterday. The petition to recount the election gained another thousand signatures since yesterday. I did find a petition which is Do NOT Reinstate the Federal "Assault Weapons Ban" of 1994. It currently has almost 6,000 signatures on it. Petition requiring a government issued photo I.D. to Vote. 5,314 signatures so far.

Day 7: November 18th. Well, today is the last day I will be doing this update on a daily basis. I will be checking these numbers at least once a week and will be keeping them fairly up to date here on my blog so by each Monday (that's my plat at least). The Assault Weapons petition gained over 2,000 signatures since yesterday, that's a good sign. Both the Florida and Texas petitions added another 1,000 signatures since yesterday. They have already reached the goal of 25,000. The others had much smaller gains. As for the petitions not yet to reach goal, they gained anywhere from 50-300 new signatures since yesterday. Indian had the most gains today with over 400 signatures putting it at 21,000+ so it is getting close to reaching the mark! Arizona also gained over 400 signatures as well.

Before You Continue On, Please Read!
As I said in Day 7, I plan to keep up with these petitions I have listed below. I will try and update them at least by Monday of each week so that they are fairly current. I think it is really interesting and our country is for sure going through a difficult time. This is a full and complete list of the petitions to secede for the 50 states. That is as of 11/19/2012. There are more than 50 petitions however, so I've tried to link each one that I could find. I may find more or be informed of more after that and then I'll make sure to link them up as well. This was a study purely to pass time and see the results of other people's interest in the petitions and to see how popular they were/are. Now...If you are like me and found this interesting and don't like the way things are you may want to sign the petition for your state. If so here are the links for the states which have submitted petitions thus far....but before you sign a petition for ANY state you should contact the state's representative or governor to be sure this is something that the state actually wants. According to this article Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, says that he never said anything about seceding from the US. He does say this though: "When we came into the nation in 1845, we were a republic, we were a stand-alone nation, and one of the deals was, we can leave anytime we want. So we’re kind of thinking about that again."

For each state listed the time to sign is by December 10, 2012.
Each petition needs 25,000 signatures.

Of course a LOT of states are not listed yet, I don't know anything about creating a petition, but maybe you do or someone you know does...all I know is that this link was provided on The White House website if you were interested in creating your own petition.

I had to search for the Texas petition since it was already completed and in that search I found the website United State of Texas. This link takes you to a petition for the state of Texas to secede from the United States and "from a more perfect union" which would be called The Republic of Texas. Eligible petitioners are voters in the United States who desire to become citizens of the Republic of Texas and voters who are Citizens of the State of Texas.

The Survivalist Post #1 | Introduction To This Series

As many of you readers know, and some of you are about to find out, I am a Survivalist! I'm actually fairly new to all of this stuff...and have SO much to learn and do to actually be prepared for different situations. My main concern is the fact that Obama is going to remain president and will therefore pose a continuing threat to people like me who like our freedom of speech, the right to bear arms (own guns...INCLUDING guns that hold more than 10 rounds thank you!), and keeping our money in our OWN pockets!!!

I may be new to the world of prepping, but that world is not new to me! I have been around it for a while so I have a lot of information to draw from already! I have been able to put together the best BOB that I can for now, and little by little Autry & I will buy something to add to our bag to make it better. Here is a list of 60+ General Things For Your BOB to get you started. If you are interested in reading how I got into all of this then here is the post you should start with!

For over two months now I have been following The Survivalist Blog via email. I've greatly enjoyed the information I've had time to read (there is SO much I have yet to read that I save in a separate folder for when I have spare time!!). This is the one and only blog I've really kept up with as far as information sources go. I do follow other Survivalist blogs which you can find on my Survivalist page!

One thing which is discussed often on The Survivalist Blog is the fact that prepping is a weekly thing: Something you should be doing all the time, not something you should rush out and do once and spend a bunch of money on. I know that Autry & I have found it much easier and a whole lot less stressful to write out a list of things we would like to have/prep and then slowly buy things to check off that list. As an encouragement to readers, and myself, I am going to start sharing updates each Monday with you all on how our Prepping is going!

Everything we do isn't about spending money either!!! Sometimes there are things on our lists that we have to research and figure out where to buy the item, or when we find where to buy it...which one we want. For example we need to find a good solid knife with a full blade which runs all the way to the end of the handle....this is something that I've been looking for and have yet to find. I've looked for over a month now, but have had no luck as of yet. Some things will just take time, and that is why it is necessary to prep by week, and not all at once!

I am working on putting up the post of what all I currently have in my BOB, but it has over 60 items in just the BOB itself (and it's not even full!!) and that doesn't include some of the really important stuff which we're still working on purchasing! I really do hope to have that post/list up by the end of this month though so I'll be working away on that really hard the next few weeks!

Today I will share with you what we did last week to prep! I have more of a mental list, and random sticky notes all over the place with different things on it that I need for our BOB and Prepping...I wanted to stop at WalMart and check the prices on several items before I decided what exactly I would buy, but we didn't find some of those things which means we will have to continue the search elsewhere.

Last week we were pricing or purchasing:

~Lighters

Up at the registers I found the pack of 7 for $1.97!

~Small LED Flashlight

We priced these. I want a Coleman. It's about $19. See below for similar picture.

~550 lb. Paracord 100 ft.

We didn't actually have time to look for or ask about this.

~Water purification tablets

None to be found. We looked in the hunting & camping departments. This WalMart does not sell it apparently, so well will have to look elsewhere...

~Packages of spam, chicken, or tuna

We decided to wait on these, but I do want to add some protein to our BOB.

~Knives

We priced these. Both of us want different knives. I don't remember the details about mine very well, but see below for details about the one Autry would like to get.

4 Boxes of Baking Soda. $0.54 each
There are a TON of uses for baking soda, but that is for another post!

 

This Coleman flashlight is similar to the one I want to get.

 

Gerber Bear Grylls Paracord Fixed Blade Knife. This one cost about $25. Autry likes this one. I didn't like it because it didn't have a solid handle...I do like that it had the paracord around the handle, but I would much rather a solid handle to the paracord if I'm gonna spend money on a knife.

 

I didn't find a picture of the knife I wanted, but it was really nice and only around $30 which really isn't bad at all. It had a solid blade all the way through the handle which is an important thing to look for in a knife. I do hope to get that knife or one similar soon!

 

Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed this post! I almost feel as excited as I did the day I declared myself a Survivalist!!! It's an excited feeling. Kind of an adrenaline rush I suppose...possibly like those that people get on roller coasters, only I wouldn't know cuz I've never been on one. :)

We had a difficult time getting to the right voting location, but after the second time we found the right place!!! Autry had to rush to work though so he gave me his sticker since he couldn't take a pic with me for this post. :)

Can you tell that I like taking pics? Lol. Outfit post from today will be up shortly! :) Have to edit the pics really quick! (aka add logo and crop pics!) You might recognize my white shirt from this Refashion project I did awhile back though! I wear it all the time because it's SO comfy! :)

On a serious note...I've heard there may be a possibility of rioting tonight after the votes are all in, etc, etc...

I'm A Budding Survivalist

Wow, where to begin! Let's start at the beginning... our family keeps up with politics and such really well. We like to know what laws are being voted on and whether they were passed or denied. We like to know what decisions the president is making and how those decisions are going to affect our lives. We like to know what is going on and when things are happening so we aren't surprised by much.

One of the most recent topics floating around our dinner table has been Bug Out Bags. In case you don't know what these are, let me explain: they are a bag with the bare necessities needed for basic life survival. Depending on what you are preparing for your BOB (it's said like the name Bob) can have a variety of things in it, but generally speaking there is a list of similarities that most people will use in their BOB's.

However, this conversation has been mostly on the side of government collapse and having to be survivalists in the woods or out of your normal environment so several family members haven't really liked to join in this talk. Generally the conversation drifts around to this topic near the end of dinner time and those who don't wish to be a part of it can go on to do other things while those of us who want to talk can. This has been going on for a few weeks now. I've sat in and listened and put in a few peeps of thoughts, but nothing major to the conversation....until a few days ago.

When we discovered just how many executive decisions Obama has made in the whole short time he has been in office compared even to the 8 years Bush was in office I really felt a pressing need to get on board and start looking into putting together my own BOB and gaining knowledge of some basic outdoor survival skills. In just a few days I've learned tons of information! There is a wealth of it out there and I've barely tipped my toe in the bucket!

What is survivalism? Well, how we are looking into it is living in the woods on our own and being able to survive with a backpack full of things at the minimum and possibly a few extras...which cannot be counted on if they aren't actually in our BOB's. Since I have jumped in and started doing my own Internet research and being so excited about it and sharing all of these really cool facts of the 50 ways to use baking soda that I never knew about, or the 20 ways to use duct tape in a survival situation the people who were less comfortable with the topic have come around and are starting to get into it. I think this is a good thing!

Being prepared for survivalism is not only a good thing in case of government collapse; but these are also useful skills for camping/hunting (both of which all or most of us participate in); preparation for natural disasters such as a hurricane, tornado, flood, or earthquake; you can have a prep pack in your car in case it breaks down; and being prepared for power outages at any time of year but most especially in the winter when it is cold.

Some Things To Look Forward To
I plan to share my research with all you readers, and hopefully new readers too!

~I Will Control My Excitement! I know that not everyone is as excited as I am about learning of new things so I will try to contain my excitement and keep my new posts on survivalist information spread out with a few days between each one if I can. Some may have to be posted together, so please forgive me ahead of time!

~A new page on BEB dedicated to Survivalism. I have already started putting together a page for my blog with the links I've found to be extremely helpful in the last few days and the links my parents have been using for the past months. If you are interested in more survivalist information or blog dedicated to survivilasim then you will definitely need to check that page out! (Don't worry I will announce its arrival!)

~I created a Pinterest board for the things I'm finding. I have already created a Pinterest board for the many pins I've found. I've added many things already that I've found useful or informational. I've tried to comment on everything as I am reading it or have read it. If it's not commented on then I probably haven't read it or its new. I will try my best to keep that as updated as possible while reading all of those articles and blog posts! Also, when I began my research I started with Pinterest (where else better to start for a Pinterest addict, right?) and I've slowly been working my way through each board on the search for 'Survivalist' and I've been reading or re-pinning the information that I find applies to the type of research I am doing--outdoor survival. These may be something to look into if you have a Pinterest account.

~How To posts here on BEB. I will be putting together tutorials and how-to posts here on this blog for different things. My main focus in the beginning (right now) is to put together mine and Autry's BOB's. So, as I am doing the research of different items listed that other people have in their BOB's I'll share that research info and I'll share the multiple survival uses of things like baking soda, super glue, Vaseline, duct tape, etc. Like I said in the very first part of this section...I really will try to control my excitement and I will try to give a few days, or a week between these posts so that you won't run off and leave me. :)

In Closing For Now
I am actually working on a beginners version of a BOB. I kind of ran through the house (well it took me three hours after spending two days putting together a list of things...so it really was a lot of work!) and will hopefully have that up later this week. I just took pics of it today since I wanted to have a semi example. I have a lot of things on there which aren't necessary to living, but then again this list is also something more like prep for no electricity such as in the winter (which is only like a month away, wow!) so it's not my serious BOB list...yet. I'm still working on that. That would be a get out of dodge BOB list! :)

I will try to share as much information in all aspects of survivalism, but in a lot of the posts you may find I lean more towards outdoor survivalism. That is also because right now my main prep is to be ready for government collapse. Once that is set, I can start thinking about smaller scale things like the electricity being out for a week. I am sure that once I have my actual real BOB packed my excitement will die down greatly, but until then you will be hearing about this topic quite often...so I hope that you will still stick around to enjoy other blog posts as I will be keeping up with regular things such as new recipes and refashions since life can't be scheduled around a disaster.

I hope that sharing the things that I am learning here on my blog will help you, yours, and more start to think in terms of taking care of yourselves even if it is for something such as power outage! That is still a huge deal! Don't take my comment from the paragraph above wrong...that is just in comparison to something so much bigger. Power outage is a huge deal and I personally hate it!

May we be prepared and never have to use the knowledge or supplies that we've stocked up on!
