Cooking For 2 | New Recipe Series!


When I get married I'll have to change a whole lot about the way I cook. I am used to cooking food for 8-10 people on a regular basis and so most of my recipes have a lot more ingredients in them than would be needed for two people to eat. Granted you could always make that amount and freeze the leftovers for later use. However, I don't plan to cook like I'm feeding an army when it's just me & Autry who need to eat so I'll be starting up a new series of recipes specifically for two people! I already have a few ideas in the making. I'm sure this will probably be starting in either late February or in March...I'm not for sure when exactly since I'm not planning to blog much during the month of February. Anyway, you'll have this to look forward to when I do get married! :)

In the meantime, if you have any food suggestions I'd love to hear them! I'm always in need of a good recipe to try and would love your suggestions!

  1. I always cook in large batches even though it's just James & myself. It's a lot cheaper to buy things in bulk. For example, I make a large pot of Vegetarian chili & it lasts us for three days & it costs less than a dollar per serving. :) It might look like you are saving money by the smaller prices on smaller items, but when you look at the price per pound/oz etc, it actually ends up costing you more.

    Just my experience anyway. :)

    1. Oh yes there's still some things like chili and soups that I'll make in large batches since it can be frozen, but some things just aren't good after they've been in the freezer lol. I still plan to buy the big bulk items since I do know they're actually cheaper in the long run and I'm all for saving us some money! haha. Thanks Krys!

  2. I can totally relate! There are 9 kids in my family, so I was used to making giant lasagnes or casseroles. When we first got married I would still make extra food, but I adore leftovers. We would freeze leftovers in little tupperware containers and take it to work or school with us. It was great! One thing that helped me was to work through a specific cookbook. I think I've cooked every recipe in Rachel Ray's family cookbook... which is a little embarrassing because it's made for kids to help out with cooking. But it worked for me! Haha.

    1. Awesome! I will check that out! And I don't think you should be embarrased to say you cooked through a cookbook like that cuz she does have good recipes and you're cooking so who cares! haha. One of my favorite cookie cookbooks is a Mary Engelbreit one and I love every single recipe I've made from it! I've used it for years!

  3. I'm used to cooking for 5 and am now only cooking for 3. Those two eaters I lost were teenage boys who have moved out. It makes a huge difference in how much I prepare/waste.

  4. I just cook a full recipe and we eat leftovers...it's awesome! I have saved our favorite recipes from pinterest, etc, on my page create and cook.

  5. I like MaryBeth's idea of freezing leftovers in small microwavable containers for work or lunch later. There ARE lots of things that keep well, and that way there will be less cooking time later.

    I would suggest looking into freezer cooking, so you'll have some recipes that are specifically made for freezing.
