First Big Snow of Winter 2013

These bushes are past knee high.
They had close to a foot of snow on top of them.

The first week of December brought a massive ice & snow storm to our area. I don’t think I've ever seen so much snow in my whole life! It was crazy. I’m from Oklahoma so the ice everywhere wasn't exactly a new thing (and actually made me not miss OK so much) but all the snow everywhere was crazy!

Most of our back yard was knee deep and the drifts were past that in a few areas. Over a week after the storm hit we still have most of the snow on the ground. It’s all white and pretty!

Our car does not love this weather. It got stuck the first three days hubby had to go out for work. The day of the storm he was able to get the car out of the driveway without too much trouble, but when he got home from his shift it got stuck really bad at the road end of our driveway. We attempted to dig it out, but 30 minutes in we were still getting nowhere. If the guy in the big truck hadn't come and yanked us out it probably would've taken a few hours to dig it out. Thank God for him!!

All bundled up and ready to dig the car out!

Hubby is not used to so much snow. He’s from the deep south and there really isn't snow there… ever. We are both quite tired of it though. Since the original snow storm it’s snowed two times and we had rain/sleet another day. More snow is expected in the next few days. Fortunately the highway right outside our house is a main snow route so it gets plowed regular which is a good thing. I’m just hoping this baby decides to come on a day when the roads are clear! I cannot imagine going all the way to the hospital (over an hour away) on icy roads!

  1. SIGH. Okay, Helen. I've TRIED to "like" snow, but...but...but!! I just can't bring my like it! ARGH! I blame it on my California upbringing.

When I visited Washington, D.C. and New York City a couple of times over the years, each time happened to be in the winter. You know what that means: SNOW! Snow everywhere! Ugh. It DID make everything look pretty after it had fallen, but it was so cold that I couldn't stand it!

Bah. That's my take on snow. LOL Such a complainer, right? At any rate, good luck with the snow and ice. Please be careful. Have a great Christmas!!

    1. I'm from Oklahoma so we deal mostly with ice there. This was more snow than I'm used to and after a week I was really tired of seeing it! It took about 2 1/2 weeks for the snow to melt. Our roads and yards are back to their boring selves now lol.

I can totally understand not being used to snow if you grew up in California. That's kind of how hubby is with it since he's from Mississippi. It doesn't so much there.

      Merry Christmas to you too!!

  3. I'm sick. I LOVE snow! I love to shovel it, too. I said I was sick! What I love even better is making snow cream! That has such fond memories for me. Mom used to make it for us when we were little. I still love it.

How's the baby's room coming?? I did find an 18 mo sweater in cammo. I'll send it if you want it! :)

    1. Lol that's funny! I don't like shoveling snow at all. Looking at it and building snowmen are about it. And if there's ice then sledding on big sheets of plastic is great too.

Baby's room is painted and furniture moved in. I have a post scheduled for 1/18/14 to show off the redoing of his room. And then I have the second part scheduled for 1/27 on getting everything put away. Part three is still in the works since I have yet to actually decorate his room. I have ideas, but haven't gotten to them yet.

Oh wow that sounds great! I'll email you.

  4. I must admit though I like the snow. I mean, I don't like it when you are out driving in the snow to go to work, but for fun yes I do. The first blizzard that we had in 2013 was on the first week of October and since then, it was full on cold fall and winter days. Lots of snow and ice, then more snow. Wew! And oh, below zero temps too for one week last month. Anyway, good thing you guys are safe. Congratulations by the way and Happy new Year!
