Hey y'all! My name is Natasha.
I'm 24 years old and I blog at Don't Think or Judge, Just Listen. I'm from a tiny town 20 miles west of San Antonio. However, in August of 2012, I moved to Abilene, Texas to attend graduate school at Abilene Christian University. These past few months have been hectic, to say the least, but when I'm not in class or doing homework, you can find me blogging about life, God, fashion, and anything else that strikes my fancy at the moment.
Now enough about me...this is my very first guest post and I'd just like to say: I'm honored to help Helen out as she gets married. (Congratulations!) I pray that she and her soon-to-be husband encounter many, many blessings in their new life together!
Today I'm going to share my favorite winter activities with you guys. Now, I love when the temperature drops just enough that I can pull out my scarves, leggings, boots, and heavy coats...but sometimes, even bundled up, it gets a little too cold for me to venture outside (Yes, I'm a baby...but I know I can't be the only one, right?! Lol!).
During these times, I've found 5 go-to activities that keep me (and my toes) nice and warm!

1. Curl up with a good book! There's nothing like getting lost in a fantasy world that's right at your fingertips. My current favorites are: Just Listen by Sarah Dessen (where I got the name for my blog), To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee (an oldie, but a goodie), Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos (my most recent read), and of course, The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins.
2. Get Crafty! No better time to get your creative juices flowing and create something new than when you're stuck inside with nowhere to go! Now, I'm a sucker for Pinterest, so when I'm looking for something cool to do, I usually search DIY (do-it-yourself) and see what neat projects I can find there! Another website that has a ton of DIY projects is Cut Out + Keep. It's a website where people post tutorials for stuff they've made.
3. Host a girl's night in! I love inviting my friends (and/or sisters) over and bursting out the board games. We entertain ourselves for hours! Our favorite games to play are Gestures, Taboo, Scategories, and Pictionary. Heat up some hot chocolate, throw together some snacks or have everyone bring an item to share, and get ready for a fun night of play!
4. When I'm feeling nostalgic for times that have gone by (long, long before my time), I like to watch an old, classic movie. They sure don't make movies like they used to. My favorite actor from days long forgotten is Jimmy Stewart. I could watch his movie Rear Window (starring Gracy Kelly) a hundred times over. I also love Abbott and Costello comedy routines, especially their movie Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.
5. Now this one won't be fun for some of you...but every once in a while I get bit by the cleaning/organizing bug. And when that happens, I just have to jump at the chance, because who knows when it will strike again. A cold, winter day is a great time to get a jumpstart on your spring cleaning. My tips: take breaks and reward yourself for progress (with items 1-4 perhaps?), get rid of things you haven't used (and aren't likely to use) in the last 6 months, do the one-for-two deal (for every one item you keep...get rid of two similar items), try everything on in your closet (you might like the pattern but the style might not fit right...and that's why it's been sitting in your closet for two years...get rid of it!).
What about you guys? What are some of your cold, wintery day activities to keep you entertained?! What are your favorite books to read or movies to watch? How do you organized your home? And remember, no matter what, how you choose to fill those loooong winter days...don't lose heart: Spring is just around the corner!
Now, don't be strangers, y'all! Feel free to stop by and visit me at my blog:

ReplyDeleteGreat guest post, I love watching old movies too. A night in with wine and a classic, like It Happened One Night, is just heaven.
I definitely agree, Holly!
